Beale Racing - ARCA Midwest Tour Joe Shear Classic

The first big race of 2017 is in the books. The ARCA Midwest Tour Joe Shear Classic was a whirlwind of a weekend for the Beale Racing team. This event included 200 laps of high speed action including live pitstops at Madison International Speedway.

We can't talk about the race without talking about the race prep. The 2017 'Chastity' racecar was prepped and ready to go with all the Johnson Racing brainpower and Beale Racing horsepower. The new engine and new body on last years three-time feature winner chassis was the base for success.

The Beale Racing team led by new crew chief Casey Johnson held pitstop practice at the Beale Enterprises headquarters on the Tuesday before the event. Under the leadership of Casey Johnson, John Beale and John Beale Sr. the team worked out the best method to mix the 9 men to one common goal. Make a fast and productive pitstop in under 4 laps of caution. This practice was integral to a good finish.

A private practice the previous week had gave us a baseline and the Saturday practice the day before the race put us in a sweet spot for a good start. We were ready to go after completing the final Sunday morning practice. The pit box and all equipment was moved to pit road and John was ready to go for qualifying.

John drove an aggressive yet smooth line for two qualifying laps and put Chasity in 11th overall out of 36 cars. The final car completed qualifying and we were locked in the big show.

The Beale Racing #5 finished 5th the even dash with some the the best teams in the event. John's times were in line with the fastest cars. This result along with the roll of the dice would put John Beale alongside Dan Lensing on the front row of the 39th inaugural Joe Shear Classic at Madison International Speedway.

The large crowd was on the edge of there seats. The call for starting engines was made. John Beale and Dan Lensing led the field around Wisconsin's fastest 1/2 mile paved raceway. The green flag flew as John and Dan crushed the throttle into the 1st turn. The two drivers pulled away from the field initially as they started the 200 lap event.. Dan would get the 1st lap but John would reinsert himself into the lead and keep it for the next 15 laps.

The first caution would set the overall finish for a number of teams. Casey and John decided to pit for tires and adjustments. A number of other quality teams would hold off on pitting and put us deep into the field. John battled in traffic for the majority of the race. The cautions would really shake up the field. The final caution with 10 laps to go would give John his best shot to move up and battle for a top ten. Andrew Morrissey would win the race with Dan Fredrickson and Ty Majeski completing the top 3. John would battle hard on the final laps and make a powerful 3 wide pass inside of Derek Kraus and Austin Nason on the final lap to give Beale Racing an 8th place finish. Overall the team felt good about the performance. The crew under leadership of Casey Johnson performed well. Now on to WIR for TUNDRA race number 1.
